CLIENT : EMI music
LOCATION : Paris - France
PROGRAM : Office Space Design, Space Planning, Workstations and furniture custom design
APPOINTMENT : Interior Design & Bespoke furniture
DATE : 2004
The new headquarters of EMI Music in Paris is a project by the Renzo Piano Building Workshop and the buildings are inspired to the traditional Parisian workshops-ateliers, with pitched roofs glazed on the north facing side.
The interior is intentionally left “raw”, with exposed steel structures and mechanical services extending to the interior spaces the industrial mood of the project.
Coherently with the atelier-like concept but also in response to a very tight budget for interior fittings we have designed office furniture and fittings employing or reinterpreting industrial materials.
Office tables are made of multi-layer birch wood panels with phenolic finish, exactly the same panels normally employed in the building industry for concrete formwork, mounted on steel structure.
The offices’ cabinets and storage elements have been custom designed taking inspiration from the flight-cases normally used for the shipment of musical instruments., and are built employing exactly the same construction materials and details as per the flight-cases.
All office furniture is mounted on wheels to offer maximum flexibility to a company where work teams are constantly reorganized on an almost monthly basis.
Long-lasting, functional, industrially raw materials have revealed to be the appropriate background for a company where employees don not follow the standard nine-to five work day, and take possession of their work space by sticking posters, photos and notes everywhere in a playful, colorful and creatively efficient disorder.
